From the Shizuoka Prefecture, this lightly toasted tea or Bancha Houghi Cha, originates in the harvest of late Autumn when the complexity of flavours held by the leaf is at its optimum.

A versatile tea that refreshes in the summer and comforts in the winter, and is often drunk as an accompaniment to food due to its palate cleansing qualities.

The pale yellow chrysanthemum tint gives rise to a woody aroma. This gives way to a slightly nutty first sip, followed by a light caramel flavour and aftertaste.  Smooth without tannins and rich in health boosting anti-oxidants this is the Japanese tea for all seasons.

Brew with freshly boiled water that has been allowed to cool for a minute or two. Steep for one or two minutes and then enjoy the unique flavours that the island of the rising sun has to offer.

Always best without milk, this is truly a tea always to have at hand with the added benefit that the leaves should be reused for a second and third infusion. Healthy, tasty, economical. What’s not to like.
